Transiting the Kiel Canal

Photos cannot capture the beauty
Best made plans to get up early as we enter the Kiel Canal turned into a two hour wait as construction and heavy traffic caused a two hour delay.  With a dark sky, 50* with rain we stayed in a holding pattern.  The canal is 61 miles long and links the North Sea to the Baltic Sea at Kiel.  It is said to be a masterpiece of engineering and is the busiest in the world.  It has 14 ferries, nine bridges and a tunnel.  It takes about 45 minutes to pass through the locks at each end. We spent the day traveling through truly bucolic countryside. The slow movement of the ship makes it difficult to stay awake.  We have floor to ceiling glass doors and can enjoy without being outside which is chilly with lots of humidty.  It is a beautiful way to see the country. All along the canal people sit on benches and wave as the ships go past.  Everyone seems to be running, walking the dog and riding bikes.  In the canal, we are a combination of cruise ships, freighters, ferries and small boats.  Our television has all the important channels along with movies but we keep it on the ships live cam showing the bow, the stern and a map with informationsuch as a map, weather and other information most of the time.  Our location midship on starboard side seems ideal.
I cannot get rid of the highlight.  Still don't know what I am doing.

Beautiful Countryside

Everyone running, bicycling, walking along the canal
