Traveling Across Kansas

We try to coordinate doctor appointments, time with friends and family when we leave the mountains because it is always a three hour trip one way.  As we start on a road trip to Southern Illinois to Phil's 65th high school reunion, we were invited to join Betsy and Bob Pankey for dinner, with Katie and Diego (the newly weds) and Charlie, our God son, who is a Chef for one of Denver's upscale restaurants.  Kirk wasn't able to join us as he gets up at 3:a.m. for work as a heavy equipment operator, presently clearing ground for a Cabello's. It was fun to be together. The next morning we headed out to Kansas.

Cathedral of the Plains in Victoria, Kansas. They have seating for
1,100 people.  We couldn't go inside because of a funeral.
Volga German statue represents the first  23
families that arrived in Victoria, Kansas in 1876.
This statue is a tribute to these pioneers,
Mile after mile of flat prairie.
What better place for a wind farm than Kansas!
Not the yellow brick road in 'The Wizard of
Oz' but a brick street in a small town where
we stopped to check the tire pressure.
This is a small town Kansas house and reminds me of
the house in the Dick and Jane readers of 1st and 2nd grade,
except for the double garage.
Typical architecture of Abilene, Kansas.
The Kirby House in Abilene, Kansas, built in 1881 is now a
restaurant and a wonderful place to stop for lunch.
The Kirby House represents the beautiful wood
used and craftsmanship of that period.

Kansas starts out flat and rather boring but there are a few surprising things along the way.

A charming place to stop off and take
a break and enjoy some history, The Kirby
House in Abilene.
A weird thing happened with this shot of the
stairway at the Kirby House, turned out like a
scene from Ghost Busters.  How strange because
it is rose color carpet and wallpaper taken in daylight?
Ofcourse, like all old houses, they have a ghost.

More as we travel across Kansas on the way to Pankeyville. Yes, I will prove there is a Pankeyville.
